From the 1st January 2012 regulation of the test fees associated to tachograph calibrations will cease to exist.
The fee is currently set at a maximum of £46.00 by the Vehicle & Operators Services Agency. (VOSA) However this leaves little scope or need for competition between tachograph calibrators which may result in a reduction of service levels to end users.
The deregulation should also enable calibrators to charge higher prices for evening and weekend work to further increase the services available to HGV and LGV operators.
Chief Executive of VOSA, Alastair Peoples said:
“Deregulation will benefit the industry, giving tachograph centres the opportunity to recoup their costs while providing a more flexible service to the customers.”
